To have budding photographers on the premises. And is it not wonderful that they love to dress up and get photos? Childhood is truly fleeting and I so enjoy having something to look back on, once these fleeting days have passed.

Just wanted to take a moment and share a few of the lovely pics my daughter Tosha recently shot of her younger siblings. We will never have that day again but the memory shall now live on forever. :)

I love the holidays, especially Thanksgiving + Christmas. The weather turning colder is not something I look forward to, however, I am learning to appreciate the unique opportunities it brings with it. Such as the snuggling under a quilt on the couch while we read our nightly read aloud. Speaking of which, yesterday we set up our Christmas tree solely for the purpose of enjoying the little twinkling white lights while we snuggle up with our good reading.

Another benefit of the colder weather is the necessity it makes one feel to deep clean the house. I don't know about you but the desire to clean the house waxes + wanes here. Sometimes we feel all fired up and then the feeling goes away + we do what we must to maintain decent surroundings. There really is too much to do + to see to spend too much time slaving over work that is so quickly undone ;) At least that is what I have come to believe, lol!

What do you enjoy that is something just enjoyed as the weather turns colder?

Perhaps most still do and I missed class that day or week? ;) However, being driven to help ds quench his thirst for leaf knowledge a googling we went and unearthed this amazing website ~ http://www.oplin.org/tree/leaf/byleaf.html

I hope you all will check it out. Unless of course, you already know how to identify trees by their leaves ;)
Most of the our current leaf collection are Eastern Cottonwood btw!

Gardenmis
Priscilla of Gardenmishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09790270752904632158noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33309596.post-55494665626280543502011-08-30T23:02:00.005-04:002011-09-03T03:13:55.367-04:00Pay It Forward

Have you all heard of Pay It Forward? Just in case you are unfamiliar ~ Pay it Forward is when someone does something nice for you + you in turn do something nice for someone else. Its a lot of fun and I hope you will play along :)

Amanda of Little Treasures by Amanda and Selina of Sew it Up who are some of the sweetest + most giving of ladies got this wonderful idea in motion.
So simple to join in, here’s how:

1. Ill make a little something for the first 3 people who comment to this post. What I make will be a surprise and will arrive to you when you least expect it. Doesn’t everyone love a surprise?

2. I have 365 days to make and deliver it to you. But there’s a little catch, to get a handmade gift from me, you have to play too! This means you take the pledge to send something handmade to 3 of your blog readers. It doesn’t have to be a quilt, just something handmade! Easy right?

3. In case it wasnt obvious in #2, you have to have a blog.

4. Once you comment here, you have to post about Pay it Forward on your blog and keep it going!

This is one of the easiest commitments you’ll make! You can make anything you want. You have a whole year to make it and send it. Simple! Even if you aren’t one of the first 3 to comment on my post, you can still do something nice for someone else by participating on your own blog. I would love to hear about it! So comment and let's keep paying it forward :)
Yesterday was a lovely day! Ds and I were out in the yard inspecting our garden, bushes, and saying hi to our beautiful and happy Blue Spruce (a gift from my lovely mama). Hard to imagine it will grow to be 82-98 ft. tall! I regret there isn't a picture of this tree on a digital camera, then I could show just how much it has grown in the 8 yrs since we planted it. At that time my ds was 2 and they both were small ~ look at them now! Both growing like crazy :)

We celebrated a beautiful day and took some time to just look at the clouds ~ ever do that? I love getting lost in their beauty, especially on days like today when there was a huge black Cumulonimbus cloud overhead and pretty blue sky peeking on the outskirts, with puffy white Cumulus clouds in the distance, they were quite distracting ~ thankfully I was able to keep my eye on the road and then get absorbed once home ;)

Here's a pic of the beauties from our home ~ I <3 clouds!
Living out a little bit from town, means we get to see a variety of creatures that perhaps most don't.
Thankfully we don't have to worry about bobcats, or other creatures of that sort. At our local park we have spotted snakes, blue herons, ducks, geese, & purple martins and in our yard we often see crayfish, blue jays, cardinals, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, & stray cats!

Today's visitor was an American Bullfrog :) We have had numerous frogs in our yard over the years and even a few bullfrogs but this one is the biggest yet! Do you have wildlife around your area that you enjoying seeing each year? If so, leave me a comment and share :)
They truly do add a little sparkle and sunshine to my day!

I am not an introvert by any stretch of the imagination. Rather, I am one to get to know you and see if we would get along and then you get the full me, hahaha! If you know me in real life (like as if the internet was fake, lol!) then you already know this truth about me. I can be rather excitable at times and perhaps even a fanatic ;)

Those who know me well, know I am crazy for our public libraries (which btw where I live, they have drive-thrus at the libraries ;) and I am obsessed with lavender and fabric, and love my family! Okay, enough about me ~ if you get a chance leave me a comment to tell me something I don't know about you :)

Here's some pics I took in the bright early morning sunshine of my English lavender ~ ahhhhh sweet lavender!

First, let me just say I had no idea I was going to get Christmas in May! Penny sent a taste of Europe in a box, things that they enjoy everyday that would be new to us ~ quite amazing job she did too!

Here's what was included ~
Irish porridge oats
Rich Italian ground coffee
Two Twinings teas unavailable Stateside ~
Blossom Earl Grey & Royal Wedding Commemorative Blend
Cookies/biscuits (which have already been devoured by my children ;)
Strawberry Jam from France
Scottish Shortbread in a commemorative tin
Country Living mag ~ English edition (which I totally love)
Easy Living mag ~ never heard of but rather fascinating and it included a Cath Kidson bag
A lovely magnet for my refridgerator
A super cool key chain
Stationary with the cutest cats playing (which I now use for notes taken while at the computer)
An adorable cat picture frame
& some lovely smelling handcream!

She also sent a postcard with a picture of her village and the local village magazine. I now totally want to go to England and visit with her and have her take me sightseeing! A huge thank you and hug to Penny ~ I feel so spoiled! I hope she liked her gift even though it was nowhere near as extravagant.

Here is a link if you are a homeschool mom and would love to participate ~ it is a great way to meet new friends, send a blessing to someone else and get some fun surprises in the mail yourself :)
In case you hadn't noticed ;) I love gardens =) From my earliest recollections my mother has grown beautiful flowers and gardened. My youngest memories are of house plants and a flowers around the front door and then she and my father kept a large, beautiful, and thriving vegetable garden. As the years went on she progressed to her house looking like a personal indoor jungle and her yard like a park ~ a secret garden of sorts. I hope my children will have similar lovely memories of their growing up days when they are grown.

This year I am hoping to grow even more herbs than I did last year and to grow cayenne, jalepeno & bell peppers as well as the usual tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, zucchini, red onions, and I can't wait to see how my asparagus and rhubarb is coming along. How about you? Do any of my readers keep a garden? If so, what do you hope to grow this year?

I hope everyone is happily getting ready for the holidays! We love Thanksgiving and are super excited about fixing some new recipes this year. Haven't exactly nailed down which ones we'll be making but we go to our families homes for Thanksgiving every year and our church has a big dinner the Sunday before. This year though, we have brought up our Christmas tree already. Yes, I know you might be thinking what? This is too early... However, every year the children want to keep up our tree until New Years and to tell the truth I have to put everything resembling Christmas away the day after Christmas as I'm ready to have the space back in my house. So in a nice compromise, I let the children put up the tree early! I'm actually loving it too as we make new ornaments every year and this year we're planning a Woodland Christmas Theme. Hopefully I'll be able to post pictures soon :) I hope to get back to a regular blogging schedule. How often do you blog? I'm thinking once a week will be my goal for now. <3
Gardenmis
Priscilla of Gardenmishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09790270752904632158noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33309596.post-84342290122763374332010-09-27T20:24:00.000-04:002010-09-27T20:24:38.170-04:00A trip to the local sculpture park ~ A pictorial story!

I don't know about you, but I love summer and always near the end wish it could stay just a little bit longer. But alas, Autumn must have it's turn. Seems like this year, Autumn will come early as it has been a bit cooler than any August in the recent years. With school right around the corner and new routines things will fall into more order and regularness but I kinda like the unscheduled flow from one thing to the next that summer affords to tell the truth!

If anyone has not checked out the Blogs that I love section to the right, please take time to do so. There are so many good bloggers listed there and their blogs are full of up-lifting, inspiring goodness, that I'm sure you won't be disappointed!!! :D

My etsy shop now has some fabric scrap bags and fabric headbands... don't you love fabric? So many wonderful uses for it :) Soon, I will have my destash shop up and running that is just for my sewing room destash. Not surprisingly it is called http://www.sewingroomdestash.com/ I am starting to realize that simple wording to the point is truly the best way to keep descriptions and such on Etsy. It has been a lot for my brain to take in, all this keywords, entrance paths, etsy, computer jargon. But I finally feel like I'm starting to get it... if even just a little! LOL!!!

Very soon my eldest daughter will have her very own shop on Etsy up and running. I'm sure it will be a hit as she has a unique way about her in everything she does!! Here is a link for you to check it out...
http://www.belleinspired.etsy.com/ Watch for it in the next few days. I'm so proud of all my children but there is something to be said about the eldest for sure! And it's all good :)
Gardenmis
Priscilla of Gardenmishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09790270752904632158noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33309596.post-67027049221931848402010-07-09T23:28:00.000-04:002010-07-09T23:28:15.467-04:00Lavender is oh so lovely!
even if one waits too long to harvest it...

I love it! Especially the planting part, the weeding part I would happily leave to others :) Today it is raining, so no playing in my garden but I thought I would share some photos of it for those of you who like me is stuck indoors! :) This is my garden at the beginning with strips of fabric and sticks used to set up my rows and walking paths. See my lavender growing in the black tubs to the right? I love that stuff!!! I also have two boxes that eventually will be one for Rhubarb and the other Asparagus.

This is the other side of the garden. We went for wide rows and raised beds... Lots of work!! I decided to double dig and everything, which is huge for me as I might be a bit lazy ;-)

It really is quite the adventure my little hillbilly backyard!! We have tried several things for the past few years to rid the yard of poison ivy and horse manure does seem to burn it up and kill it, yay! :) My mom is a true green thumb, and me, well, I'm just trying to develop just a little bit of her talent!!

This is the garden prior to planting when it was in the preparation stage. As the rain stops and I get a chance to get some pics of it now that it is planted I will post some more. Before I go though let me share my yearly visitors whom I adore and have named Rachel and Alex. What a day...Today was a great day that started off a little rough as I have been battling a double ear infection that has been very painful. However, it turned out being a fabulous day! First my children and I worked a little around the house getting some necessary things done. Then it was off to drop my oldest to her work as a Mother's helper. There we dropped her off and picked up 3 of the children and off to the park we went. I was able to walk on a beautiful walking path and pray, soak up the sun, and just breathe the fresh air in peace while the children played. From there we snuck down to our local Sonics and got their happy hour drinks which when you order a small per person is only .50 each and cheaper than buying a can of soda pop yet healthier as it has fruit in it. Well, at least mine did! I love their Lime real fruit slushes. Can you say refreshing?

So after getting all the kids some sugar, uh, I mean slushes we came back to my house to work a little more on my garden, which is just in the preparation stage at this point and soon to be in the planting. By the way, did I mention my wonderful hubby fixed it to where my tools and even the hose is now right next to the garden and much easier for me? Well, he did! I sure do love that man. So back to our day... I never got much prep work done on my garden but the boys and there were 3, fixed them up a little fort of sorts and of course I had to help!! LOL! Then we gathered sticks to have a little fire and roast marshmallows but of course, they are never here when you need them, so a trip to the store was called for. And then we noticed on the way to the store the storm clouds rolling in. They were beautiful too! I didn't have my camera but a friend on the other side of town had hers and here is what she caught...

Isn't that amazing? We never actually got to have our little roasting fire but I did get everyone a push up to make up for it and there will be many more days for roasting marshmallows not that we are in Springtime! So my day was wonderful, filled with many laughing children, sunshine, a beautiful cloud display that contained lightening and thunder and complete with ice cream. What could be better than that?
Gardenmis
Priscilla of Gardenmishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09790270752904632158noreply@blogger.com1
